Rams LB Sammy Brown wears blond Clay Matthews wig at practice
The St. Louis Rams are hosting the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, and Rams head coach Jeff Fisher is using an interesting plan to get his team prepared for the game.
In order to get his offense acclimated to playing against Pro Bowl linebacker Clay Matthews, he had practice squad linebacker Sammy Brown wear a blond wig during practice.
“I thought it was pretty cool,” defensive end Chris Long told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “Clay’s are a little bit more flowy. But I almost thought it was Clay Matthews.”
Fisher told the media that he’s used this technique in the past to replicate Steelers safety Troy Polamalu.
“When you’re playing great players like Polamalu and Matthews, you like to know where they are on the field, and that helps,” Fisher told reporters.
We’ve seen teams take extra measures during practice to prepare for upcoming games. Guys like Dez Bryant and even Aaron Rodgers have impersonated Michael Vick during practices because the Eagles QB is so dynamic.
Visualization is a huge aspect of preparing for athletic competitions. If Fisher can turn visualization into reality with wigs or any other prop, that could certainly help his players get in the right mindset.
