Cam Schlittler is not sweating Toronto Blue Jays manager and American League All-Star skipper John Schneider’s decision to go with Dylan Cease as the AL’s starting pitcher in the Midsummer Classic.
Schneider announced on Sunday that the AL will give Cease the honor to start in Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pa. That is despite Schlittler having a better season than Cease.
However, the New York Yankees ace said that he has zero issues with the AL starting Cease. For one, he will not be pitching in the game.
“There’s no hard feelings. That’s not something I can control,” Schlittler said on Monday, via SNY Yankees. “I’m more worried about the second half and Dylan deserves that.”
Schlittler and the Yankees entered the midseason break just three games off first place in the AL East, and they will need him healthy for a stronger chance to win the division.
Of course, that was the diplomatic way for Schlittler to address Schneider’s decision. Nevertheless, there is no taking away the 25-year-old right-hander’s strong campaign, so far.
In his first 20 starts in 2026, Schlittler posted a 9-5 record to go along with a 2.05 ERA and 0.944 WHIP. Cease, on the other hand, is 6-4 with a 2.56 ERA and 1.129 WHIP after 17 starts for the Blue Jays.
