Rex Ryan Has No Regrets About All His Jets-Giants Pregame Talk

We should know by now that Rex Ryan talks a big game and doesn’t back down from anyone or anything. That’s just the way he is. He is full of confidence even though his team is not always as good as he thinks it is.

Prior to the Jets-Giants game Saturday, Rex said his team was the best in the NFL and therefore the best in New York. It was that type of bold attitude that upset several Giants players, firing them up for the game. Brandon Jacobs even said Rex’s words put his players in a bad spot. Despite knowing that, Ryan isn’t backing down from his big-talking approach.

“The day I walked in here … I felt that I didn’t want to be the little brother or whatever,” Ryan said. “That’s who I am, and so do I regret it? No. Did it work out? Nope, it never worked out. But I’m never going to say I regret anything that I believe in my heart. I’ve always said from day one I am going to be true to myself, and when I leave this job 10 or 15 years from now, I’m going to be true to myself.”

I really respect that Rex stands by what he believes. I like that he’s confident in his players. And I still think he’s an excellent defensive coach. But maybe there are two things he could gain from by changing. One, realizing that Mark Sanchez is a weakness at quarterback. Two, understanding that sometimes his teams will be better off if he keeps his mouth shut. The sooner he makes those two adjustments, the better off he’ll be.
