Ryan Fitzpatrick shaves beard to ‘switch up the mojo’
Ryan Fitzpatrick had become known for his trademark beard, one that had come close to the point of being out of control. Due to a couple of bad games recently, the Jets quarterback shaved it down a bit in hopes of getting rid of the bad mojo.
“It seemed like it was time,” Fitzpatrick said via ESPN. “Switch up the mojo a little bit.”
Fitzpatrick’s new look should be approved of by Rex Ryan, who had apparently gave Fitzpatrick a few hints the beard needed to go.
“When I looked in the mirror, I realized Rex was correct, and I was pretty ugly. And I think this is a better look for me right now.”
Fitzpatrick has thrown multiple interceptions in three games this season. Two of those games have been in the Jets’ last two outings, with Fitzpatrick throwing two interceptions against both the Bills and Texans. New York lost both of those games and has come up on the short end in four of their last five. A 4-1 start seems like a distant memory as the Jets are now 5-5, along with four other teams in the AFC.
Obviously, Fitzpatrick isn’t the only reason the Jets have slid of late. However, him playing better will certainly help if they are going to turn things around in their final six games. Fitzpatrick threw six touchdowns against the Titans last season after shaving his beard so it’s worked in the past. Rex Ryan and the Jets are hoping it has a similar effect this time around for sure.
