Jordan Spieth said at 14 his goal was to win Masters, and he did it at 21 (Video)

Golf prodigy Jordan Spieth has already achieved one of his biggest career goals and he did so at the young age of 21.

Back when he was 14 in 2008, Spieth was profiled by WFAA in Texas. He was just a student at Jesuit High School in Dallas at the time, and the profile talked about his improvement as a player since working with a new coach.

During the video, WFAA shows a clip of Spieth stating his goal of winning the Masters.

“Well my ultimate goal, when I came here, Cam asked me and I said I wanted to win the Masters,” Spieth is shown saying.

Seven years later, the youngster came through on his goal. At 21 he tied Tiger Woods’ record by shooting 18-under at Augusta in winning the major. He led after every round and never let anyone get closer than three shots of himself after the first round.

After winning the tournament, Spieth reaffirmed what he stated at 14.

“This was the ultimate goal in my golf life,” Spieth said.

This was Spieth’s third PGA Tour win and obviously the greatest victory of his young career.

“I thought today might be easier having played with the lead on Saturday. It wasn’t,” Spieth said. “It’s the most incredible week of my life. This is as great as it gets in our sport. … I’m still kind of shock a little bit.”

He ended the Masters as the record holder for lowest score after 36 holes, 54 holes, most birdies with 28, and the lowest opening round for a champion after shooting his 64.

Congratulations to Spieth on his historic victory. He played like a champion all week.
