Favre-loving Reporter Apologizes for Calling Mississippi a ‘Cesspool’

Some St. Paul Pioneer Press writer named Jim Ragsdale thought it would be funny to put together a video begging Brett Favre to come back to the Vikings. I’m not sure why he wasted his time with it since we all know Brett’s coming back, but he did. In the video, Ragsdale took the time to rag on Mississippi while pumping up Minnesota. At one point in the video he called Mississippi a “cesspool.” Predictably, that didn’t go over well in the Biloxi area; you know those Mississippians — they’re a proud bunch.

Ragsdale’s video was posted on Thursday. His apology came Friday.

“We do these spoof videos from time to time; we didn’t mean to hurt anyone,” Ragsdale said. “I deeply apologize for the wrong choice of words, and the cesspool word was intended as a joke. I could see people getting upset about the oil spill on the Gulf Coast and being associated with the word cesspool. I didn’t mean it that way. I deeply apologize.”

Here’s the infamous video of Jim Ragsdale calling Mississippi a cesspool:
