Sydney Leroux talks trash to Colin Kaepernick over UCLA-Nevada game

Sydney Leroux Colin Kaepernick

Sydney Leroux couldn’t resist sending some trash talk Colin Kaepernick’s way as she watched her UCLA Bruins take down his Nevada Wolfpack on Saturday evening.

Leroux, a former UCLA soccer star from 2008-2011 and current forward on the US Women’s National Team, sent a little chin music Kaep’s way while the Bruins were turning the game into a blowout during the second half:

The game was actually close at halftime — the Bruins were only up 17-13 — but UCLA turned it on for the second half and blew out the Wolfpack 41-7 to win 58-20.

Kaepernick, a four-year starter at Nevada, had no response for Leroux’s taunt.

Leroux and Kaepernick are actually friendly with each other. They follow each other on Twitter and were both featured in ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue. They were at an event in May and took a picture together, leading Leroux to crack a joke about all the tattoos both of them have:

Colin Kaepernick, shirtless on GQ, has nightmares of his bad plays

Colin Kaepernick GQ

Colin Kaepernick is featured on one of two covers for GQ’s September NFL kickoff edition, joining Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III as one of the two cover guys. Our friend Jimmy Traina at SI Hot Clicks posted a photo of the shirtless, muscular San Francisco 49ers quarterback on Wednesday at the behest of one of his female readers. We decided since we post so many photos of women on here — like Amanda Dufner for instance — that our female fans might enjoy that pic of Kaepernick. There’s also this photo gallery of Kaepernick if you’re looking for more.

GQ did an interview with Kaepernick that’s pretty interesting. In the interview, Kaepernick said he wanted cornrows in middle school to be like Allen Iverson, and he had to travel 15 miles to find someone who could do that for him. He talked about what it was like growing up having a different skin color from the rest of his family. He said he didn’t run as a high school quarterback, even though he could, because his coaches didn’t want him to (something about keeping him healthy).

One thing from the interview that stood out is that Kaepernick wants people to know that he is an intellectual QB who puts in a ton of work on the mental side of the game. He’s such a perfectionist and visual player that he has nightmares of his bad plays.

Colin Kaepernick wore a red jacket and blue pants to the ESPYs

Colin Kaepernick ESPYs red suit

Now that Colin Kaepernick is becoming a big-time athlete, he’s starting to wear the type of clothes only big-time athletes can get away with.

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback showed up to the ESPYs wearing a red jacket, matching red shoes, blue pants, and matching blue handkerchief in his breast pocket. The outfit also (sort of) matched the red Jaguar F type he showed up in, and it also led people to draw comparisons between him and Clipper Darrell.

The only good news is that at least Kaep’s outfit wasn’t as bad as what we’ve seen from the likes of Dwyane Wade.

“I had to do something different for the ESPYs,” Kaepernick told ESPN’s Samantha Ponder. “This is the one chance to try to show off and do something a little different, and this is what I came up with.”

As long as he’s not wearing other team’s hats, I’m sure 49ers fans won’t complain.

Here’s a close-up look at his shoes:

NaVorro Bowman: Colin Kaepernick made ‘huge mistake’ wearing Miami Dolphins hat

Colin-Kaepernick-Dolphins-hatA lot of people feel that Colin Kaepernick took too much heat for wearing a Miami Dolphins hat a couple weeks ago, but at least one of his San Francisco 49ers teammates thought the criticism was well-deserved. Linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who at age 25 is a young player in the league like Kaepernick, said it was a bonehead move.

“This is a huge mistake by Kaep,” Bowman told the NFL Network, via Around the League. “I’m sure he understands that now. In his defense, we’re young, in our era these days we like to match our snapbacks with our outfits.”

Kaepernick made no apologies for wearing the hat and even called out his fans for being upset over it. He later tried to make up for it by wearing his Niners gear loud and proud, but most fans think their quarterback wearing his own team’s colors should be a given.

“The hats now these days are very important to the outfit, so Kaep I understand what you did, but let’s stay away from the NFL teams,” Bowman added. “Stick to NBA, go to college or the baseball hats.”

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, who appeared on the same “NFL Total Access” segment, said the general rule is “you stick to baseball or hockey or whatever” to avoid meaningless controversies like this one. The Miami Marlins may stink, but their colors are similar to the Dolphins’ colors. Marlins gear would match Kaepernick’s outfits just the same, and it probably wouldn’t infuriate his fans.

No harm, no foul, as they say. Just don’t do it again, Colin. Even your own teammates realize how much of a no-no that is.

A few days after upsetting San Francisco 49ers fans by wearing a Miami Dolphins hat at a 4th of July party, Colin Kaepernick seemingly made amends.

Kaepernick tweeted that he was a in a “Golden State of Mind” and shared a picture of himself wearing a 49ers hat and red tank top that says “the Golden State” in 49ers writing.

Do you accept his apology, Niners fans?

Colin Kaepernick will wear a Miami Dolphins hat whether the fans like it or not

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was seen partying on July 4 wearing a Miami Dolphins hat. Naturally, Kaepernick wearing an opposing team’s hat led to scrutiny and complaints from fans.

Though most players would apologize and beg the fans for forgiveness, Kaep took a different approach. The quarterback responded to the backlash with an Instagram posting that included the photo below and this note:

Colin Kaepernick throws 87-mph first pitch at Giants game (Video)

Colin Kaepernick is just showing off at this point.

As if being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL wasn’t already enough, Kaepernick had to go out and show everyone that he might just be the best baseball player in the league, too.

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the San Franciso Giants-Miami Marlins game on Friday and, according to the Giants, his pitch was clocked at 87 mph. Bay Area Sports Guy recorded and posted video of the pitch, which you can see at the top.

Giants relief pitcher Sergio Romo caught Kaepernick’s delivery and didn’t even have any gear on despite the fireball unleashed by Kaep. The two later posed for a picture:
