Adam Schefter ‘skeptical’ Colin Kaepernick workout will actually happen

Colin Kaepernick
The NFL has organized a workout for Colin Kaepernick that is scheduled to take place on Saturday in Atlanta, but apparently it is not a given that the free agent quarterback is going to show up.

In an appearance on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” Thursday morning, Adam Schefter of ESPN said he is “skeptical” that Kaepernick’s workout will actually take place.

Considering how connected Schefter is and the fact that the workout is scheduled to be held in just two days, that is pretty noteworthy.

It’s possible that Kaepernick is unhappy with the way the workout came together, as the NFL did not inform his camp about it until Tuesday. With it being held on Saturday, most coaches won’t be able to attend and will be too busy preparing for their Sunday opponents, while high-level executives will likely be scouting college games. Schefter reported on Wednesday that several executives have already reached out to Kaepernick as a courtesy to let him know they cannot attend the workout, so perhaps the 32-year-old is considering backing out. Kaepernick’s camp has also expressed that the NFL went back on an agreement to provide a list of attendees. They have also said that as of Wednesday, they still had not received details about the planned route tree and passes the quarterback would be asked to throw at the workout.

Any team that had genuine interest in Kaepernick would probably invite him for a private workout, though we have heard of at least some teams that plan to send representatives on Saturday. If Kaepernick feels attending the workout would only serve to make the NFL look like they are helping him out but not actually give him a better chance to land a job, he may decide to not go through with it.
