Dan Gilbert and his son Nick wore matching suits, bow ties to lottery (Picture)

Dan Gilbert brought his son Nick to the NBA Draft Lottery for the second year in a row, and the two showed up all swagged out. The Gilberts wore matching suits and bow ties, as you can see in the picture above. Really the outfit was just Dan dressing up the way his son did last year.

Unfortunately for the Cavs, Nick wasn’t able to bring the same kind of good luck to the lottery as he did last year. The Cavs ended up with the fourth overall pick while the Hornets jumped everyone to get the No. 1 pick and Anthony Davis. The good news for Charlotte is that Harrison Barnes looks pretty solid at second overall.

Washington Generals Invite Dan Gilbert to Play or Coach for Them in Exhibition

The Washington Generals have written a letter to Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, inviting him to coach or play in an exhibition game on December 27th against the Harlem Globetrotters. The invitation was a response to an email Gilbert sent to NBA commissioner David Stern, who stopped a Chris Paul to the Lakers trade citing “basketball reasons.” In his email, Gilbert said such a trade would make 25 of the 30 teams in the league just like the Washington Generals. The Generals have lost over 13,000 exhibition games to the Globetrotters.

Here is the invitation from the Generals to Gilbert (click twice to enlarge):

I’d love to see Gilbert play in the game and get pushed around. He is so petty and such a jerk, that would be nice retribution.

Thanks to Hot Clicks for sharing the story.

Dan Gilbert Emails David Stern to Complain About Chris Paul Trade ‘Travesty’

Dan Gilbert is back on his internet machine and firing off angry emails, only this one involved far less Comic Sans font than the last one. The Cavs owner sent an email to commissioner David Stern Thursday to protest the Chris Paul to the Lakers trade.

Here’s what he wrote, according to an email obtained by Yahoo! Sports:

Commissioner,

It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.

This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets.

LeBron James and Dan Gilbert Reflect on Twitter After Miami Heat Lose NBA Finals

After LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat last summer, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert boldly stated his team would win a championship before LeBron. The prediction seemed asinine (and I still believe it is), but after the Heat lost the NBA Finals Gilbert was ready to kick dirt in LeBron’s face. Rather than get his comic sans font ready for fire, this time Gilbert sent off a tweet from his BlackBerry:

I’m guessing Gilbert isn’t genuinely happy for Dallas as much as he’s happy that Dallas kept LeBron from winning a title. Gilbert’s style isn’t to congratulate but rather to be spiteful. LeBron meanwhile reflected on twitter and was much more pensive than you might expect, alluding to a higher power.

“The Greater Man upstairs know when it’s my time. Right now isn’t the time,” James wrote.

For someone who’s made Karma references in the past, it’s not too surprising to see LeBron get spiritual to explain what happened. Dallas was the better team, and they employed a great defensive scheme to stop the Heat. Miami and LeBron will get their championships in time and James knows that. He’s taking a positive approach as he reflects on the failure of the season, and that’s not easy to do.

Nick Gilbert Earns Street Cred with ‘Gang Sign’ After Cavs Win NBA Draft Lottery

The Cleveland Cavaliers decided to have Nick Gilbert represent them at the NBA draft lottery Tuesday night. Nick is the son of Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, and the 14-year-old was born with a nerve disorder that causes tumors to grow anywhere in the body at any time. Not only did Nick raise awareness for Neurofibromatosis with his appearance, but he also won the hearts of viewers with his charisma. Oh yeah, he also picked up some nice street credit by throwing up what some people interpreted to be a gang sign.

For instance, Wizards center JaVale Mcgee, tweeting under his alter-ego of “Pierre, wrote on twitter “He just thru up gang signs for the number 1 pick…. Dan Gilbert son a gangsta.”

Like I said, kid picked up some serious street cred with his appearance. Oh yeah, he also helped the Cavs (with his good luck?) get the #1 and #4 pick in the draft. The top pick came from the Clippers in the Baron Davis trade and it only had a 2.8% chance of winning. It’s OK, the Cavs will find a way to screw it up. If not because of their bad moves, but because the pick is partially cursed because of its ties to the Clippers.

Dan Gilbert Sacked by the LBS Nut Bag for Pathetically Attacking Writer Kelly Dwyer

Over the past year we’ve come to learn that Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is quite the jackass. The night LeBron James decided to leave Cleveland for Miami, a livid and chilidish Gilbert fired off an angry letter to the fans ripping LeBron to shreds. Then a few months later he continued to rip LeBron, only this time on twitter. Then in December we learned Gilbert was hiring a law firm to investigate the Miami Heat for tampering. Yeah, this guy is quite the jerk, and for all his offenses he is formally getting sacked by the LBS Nut Bag.

Gilbert’s latest juvenile display includes mocking Yahoo! Sports writer Kelly Dwyer who had predicted the Cavs would win 12 games this season, as I learned from Cleveland sports site Waiting for Next Year.

After the Cavs beat the Kings Wednesday night, a fan pointed out to Gilbert that the Cavs won their 13th game thereby surpassing Dwyer’s prediction. Gilbert then replied “Who is Kellie Dwyer?” He followed it up saying “How long has Kellie been writing? Never heard of her.”

Dan Gilbert, Cavs Hire Law Firm to Investigate Miami Heat Tampering

If Dan Gilbert expects people to believe that he’s “over” LeBron James after he was angry enough to send Cavaliers fans this letter just a few months ago, he’s even crazier than we thought.  What’s particularly convenient about the whole LeBron returning to Cleveland situation is that just one day after Gilbert told reporters he has moved on from King James, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports is reporting something quite contradictory.

According to Wojnarowski, the Cavs have dumped “hundreds of thousands of dollars” into a well-known Midwestern law firm to investigate the notion that the Miami Heat broke NBA tampering rules when pursuing LeBron James.  Two sources with direct knowledge of the situation even told Yahoo! Sports that Gilbert will “spare no expense to uncover whatever evidence he can to take to the league office.”  If those are the actions of a man who no longer cares, I’d hate to see what Gilbert would do if he was still upset.

By league standards, the Heat obviously tampered with LeBron.  No Miami representative was allowed to speak with James about joining the Heat prior to the start of free agency on July 1.  I don’t think there’s a person in the world who thinks LeBron, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh haven’t been talking about the possibility of playing together for about two years now.  Just look at this report, which is from June 29.  Proving it?  That will be a difficult — if not impossible — task.
