Audio: Lamar Odom Nearly in Tears During Interview After Learning of Trade

Lakers forward Lamar Odom was the subject of a trade report Thursday afternoon, and he was heartbroken at the thought of being forced to leave Los Angeles.

Odom and Pau Gasol were traded from the Lakers to the Hornets for Chris Paul in a deal that was also supposed to involve the Houston Rockets. The league canceled the trade at the urging of several owners, but it may still go through at a later date. If that happens, you can count on Lamar to be pretty disconsolate.

During an interview on ESPN Radio in Los Angeles Thursday, Odom was nearly in tears when discussing the trade.

Los Angeles Lakers Should Look to Past on how to Fix Team for Future

Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum killed the Los Angeles Lakers. Ron Artest is a mess. Lamar Odom could net L.A. some great pieces. The Lakers should trade for LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard and Chris Paul. It’s the only chance L.A. has to ever win another title again. That’s the only way Mitch Kupchak and Dr. Jerry Buss can fix the Lakers in the offseason!”

Seems ludicrous? Nonsense! This is Hollywood and there are no limits to one’s imagination, regardless of how asinine and improbable the notions may be.

You think I’m making this up? I wish I were this crazy creative. Unfortunately, I’m not but I do happen to live in Los Angeles, where what seems to be the End Of Days was triggered when the Dallas Mavericks, a very capable team, swept the Lakers out of the playoffs in the second round. As soon as the season ended, the chaos began. Just tune in to any LA sports radio station and listen for yourself. Laker fans are going crazy with their opinions on how to “fix” the Lakers thinking of every conceivable method except for the most obvious and correct one.

The best way to “fix” the Lakers is by hiring a good coach to replace Phil Jackson. Then they need to find nice young point guard and a wing or two that can shoot the long ball — chicks dig the long ball.

But the core of this team? You absolutely do not mess around with this core. Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom aren’t just vital; they should be considered untouchable.

Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom Cheap Shot Videos Show Classless Behavior

The Lakers are so used to winning and going far in the playoffs they had no idea how to react when things didn’t go their way. They have become so spoiled by their success they had to resort to cheap shots when they were losing to make up for their poor performance. A bitter Ron Artest clotheslined J.J. Barea to end Game 2 of the series and ended up suspended for Game 3. Andrew Bynum did the same thing to Barea at the end of Game 4 and will likely have to miss games to begin the ’11-’12 season. Check out the video of the play and tell me it wasn’t sickening to watch.

That was truly pathetic of Bynum, and it’s sad they had to pick on a guy like J.J. Barea. If you didn’t want Barea to do well, you should have stopped him when it mattered. The sad thing is Bynum’s cheap shot only came slightly after Lamar Odom shoved Dirk Nowitzki out of nowhere. Don’t think Bynum and Artest were alone … Odom even beat Bynum to it:

Lamar Odom Upset with Bill Plaschke Column Questioning Effect of Reality Show

It’s been an up-and-down week for Lakers forward Lamar Odom who was both rewarded and questioned by the media. Odom won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award Tuesday and was able to celebrate by reading a column questioning him. Bill Plaschke of the LA Times wrote about Lamar’s reality TV show Khloe & Lamar, said it portrayed Odom as soft, and wondered if it was making Lamar play poorly. Keep in mind this is the same show Lamar wanted to quit after three days because it was too much for him.

Some of the criticism from Plaschke included calling the show a “cheesy series” and labeling Khloe Kardashian a “D-League celebrity.” Then Plaschke talked about Lamar getting pushed around on the show by the Kardashian women. He wrote “I’m wondering how Odom can watch or hear about himself portrayed in this manner, then go out and easily become the aggressor on the basketball court.” He says the show makes Odom look soft and he argues that its release should have been delayed until after the postseason. It was a powerful column with a lot of strong criticisms and it was poorly received by Odom.

Lamar Odom Wanted to Quit Filming Lamar and Khloe Show After Three Days

I’ve often thought it would be tough for Lakers forward Lamar Odom to maintain focus on basketball with everything he does off the court, and it turns out I’m not the only one. During a visit on The Ellen Show this week, Lamar admitted that a few days into filming the Khloe & Lamar show he wanted out. Here’s the video as shared by the LA Times:

In case you couldn’t watch the clip, Khloe Kardashian actually didn’t want to do the show because she knew how much work it involved. Being mindful of his playing career, she didn’t want to put Lamar through the show, but he’s actually the one who wanted to film it. Lamar said he thought it was going to be easy, but three days into filming he wanted to back out of the contract.

I couldn’t tell you how the show is, but just what we suspected is the case: having your own show is pretty intense and requires a lot of time and effort.

Lamar Odom Head Pictures After Stitches

Sick of all the Mr. Kardashian jokes, Lamar Odom has apparently taken it upon himself to prove what a tough guy he is. After colliding with teammate Pau Gasol during Thursday night’s win over the Celtics, Lamar had a gash in his dome that needed to be examined by the trainers. They patched his head up with a bandage and he returned to score six points and grab six rebounds in the fourth quarter of the game. After his tough guy display was over, Odom got eight stitches on his dome, and then he got patched up for Friday’s game.

Here’s a picture timeline of Odom’s head injury from Thursday to Friday:

With Mr. Kardashian out to prove something, did you really think something as small as a gash on the head would keep him out of the Lakers-Knicks game? Of course not. He was dressed up in a Silence of the Lambs mini-mask for the game. That was one sweet job by the training staff, no?

Matt Barnes Wants to Put a Used Diaper in Lamar Odom’s Mouth

Although Lamar Kardashian should have felt embarrassment for getting stuffed by the rim on a dunk attempt and watching his team lose to the Magic on Sunday, Lamar’s been doing a lot of talking. After the game, Odom mocked Matt Barnes’ defensive efforts, comparing Barnes to pro wrestler Ric Flair. Odom added onto that comment after the Lakers’ win Tuesday night, saying “That [expletive] that Matt Barnes pulled, that ain’t never going to happen again.” Barnes must have been alerted to that comment because he wrote the following response on his twitter (minor bad language):

Morning yall up early w/ the babies watchn Dora. Seems Lamar can’t keep my name out his mouth maby I need 2 put my sons shitty diaper n it

That tweet was definitely Vince McMahon approved. As much as the hype has built up over the Lakers and Cavs meeting in the finals, count me as someone who would love to see a Lakers/Magic rematch. Is there anything better than teams that dislike each other and players that seem to hate each other? That’s what I’m looking for!
