Chyna, real name Joan Laurer, rose to fame in 1997 as a member of WWF’s Degeneration X group. She was the only female to hold the WWF Intercontinental Championship. Standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 180 pounds, the bodybuilder was an intimidating force in the ring, beating some wrestlers such as Triple H, Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho. She left the WWF in 2001 and later wrestled in Japan and for TNA (Total Nonstop Action).
Chyna appeared in six adult films from 2004-2013, posed for Playboy, and also had a career in reality TV. Since 2012 she lived in Japan where she taught English.
At points during her life, Chyna had issues with substance abuse, domestic violence, and in 2010, she overdosed on sleeping medication.
