Aaron Boone: Injury not reason for Gary Sanchez’s lack of hustle
Gary Sanchez’s lack of hustle during Monday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays was so bad that it left some wondering whether an injury was to blame. Aaron Boone says that is not the case.
Boone was asked after the New York Yankees lost 7-6 about what happened with Sanchez. First the catcher did not hustle after a passed ball, which embarrassingly allowed a runner to score from second. Then he didn’t hustle on a game-ending double play. Had he run hard, he probably would have beaten it out and tied the game.
After the loss, Boone said repeatedly that he would need to watch video to see what happened. But he also said that injury should not be to blame.
Aaron Boone said three times he needed to see video of Gary Sánchez's running (after the passed ball, down the 1B line) in order to see what his effort was on those plays. But, he added, Sánchez is healthy. "He should be able to get after it."

“He should be able to get after it,” Boone said.
Sanchez was recently activated from the DL due to a groin injury, but if his manager says he should be 100 percent, there is no reason why we should see anything less on the field.
