Free agent third baseman Alex Bregman is still looking for a landing spot, and one potential National League contender could come calling if he is willing to hedge on his contract demands.
The Chicago Cubs could look into signing Bregman if the third baseman is willing to accept a short-term deal, according to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score. The Cubs could put together an offer for three years with opt-outs after each season, similar to the deal they signed Cody Bellinger to prior to the 2024 season.
While two teams have consistently been linked to Bregman, the Cubs have not been one of them. They do not appear eager to offer a long-term contract, but no other team appears willing to give Bregman what he initially wanted either.
Bregman turns 31 at the end of March, which is cause for concern for some teams. Still, he hit .260 with 26 home runs last year and won an AL Gold Glove for his play at third base. He could be a major difference-maker for someone, but the contract he will get will probably not wind up looking like what he and his camp had hoped for.
