Andrelton Simmons will not need surgery on injured ankle
Andrelton Simmons appears to have avoided the worst after suffering a scary-looking ankle injury earlier this week.
Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Angels shortstop said that surgery on the ankle has been ruled out, per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Simmons did say though that he does not yet have a timetable for a return and will know more once the swelling goes down in a week or two.
The four-time Gold Glover was hurt in Monday’s loss to Minnesota when he sprained his left ankle running out a grounder in a bit of a stomach-turner.
Simmons is batting a career-high .298 with three homers and 21 RBIs in 46 games this season. With the All-Star break about a month-and-a-half away, the Angels may be happy if Simmons can make it back to the lineup before then, even if he managed to escape surgery.
