The Los Angeles Angels ended an extremely long streak on Monday by defeating the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-2, in a series opener at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif.

Trailing by a run entering the bottom of the ninth inning, the Halos’ bats came alive and loaded the bases. Jo Adell was then hit by a pitch from Cardinals All-Star closer Riley O’Brien to pave the way for a Los Angeles victory.

Here is a video of that wild ending.

But it was more than just a win for the Angels; it was their first victory in 107 consecutive games when trailing entering the ninth inning, according to ESPN Insights.

The Angels’ rally started on a one-out single by Nolan Schanuel before Jorge Soler was hit by a pitch. Vaughn Grissom then hit a double that allowed Oswald Peraza, pinch-running for Schanuel, to score the tying run. The Cardinals opted to intentionally walk Josh Lowe to load the bases for the Angels and set the table for the stunning finish.

The Angels now have a two-game winning streak going for them, though they are still way behind in the American League West race, where Los Angeles is last with a 40-61 record – 11 games off the top of the division.
