Angels manager calls for Jake Marisnick suspension after collision
Los Angeles Angels manager Brad Ausmus is calling for Jake Marisnick to be suspended after the Houston Astros outfielder’s collision with Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy on Sunday.
Marisnick ran into Lucroy while trying to score a run to break a 10-10 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning of Sunday’s game. Marisnick was later ruled out for violating the Buster Posey Rule. Lucroy left the game and was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for a possible concussion and broken nose, the OC Register’s Jeff Fletcher reported.
The nasty collision had Ausmus, himself a former catcher, saying Marisnick should be suspended.
“It certainly didn’t look like a clean play,” Ausmus said after the game, via Fletcher. “I don’t know what actually happened. It looked like Marisnick took a step to the left and bowled into him with his arm up. The call was right. Major League Baseball should probably take a look at it and consider some type of suspension, quite frankly.”
Marisnick said he planned to reach out to Lucroy, saying he wasn’t intending to knock him over and it was a split-second thing.
The Astros ended up winning 11-10 in 10 innings.
The only bright side for the Angels is that the All-Star break is beginning, which will give Lucroy some time to recover from any injuries he may have sustained in the collision.
