Bartolo Colon wants to play two more years to chase records for Latin pitchers?

Bartolo Colon swing

Bartolo Colon may be continuing to add to his already indelible mark on the game of baseball for multiple more years to come.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports noted on Thursday that some believe Colon could pitch for two more years in the interest of some good ol’ record-chasing.

Per Heyman:

Some think Bartolo Colon may want to go not one but two more years. He’d like to gather some more records for Latin pitchers. Amazing.

Colon is already the oldest active player in the MLB at 44 years old. But at 239 career wins, he trails Juan Marichal (243) for most wins by a Dominican-born pitcher in league history and Dennis Martinez (245) for most wins by any Latin-born pitcher in the MLB. Colon’s 524 career starts are also somewhat within striking distance of Martinez’s Latin pitcher record of 562 starts.

The former Cy Young winner doesn’t seem to have all that much left in the tank — he’s just 6-12 in 2017 with a horrifying 6.41 ERA in 24 starts between the Atlanta Braves and the Minnesota Twins. But with Colon’s cult hero status among fans and the general publicity he creates, the people would almost assuredly welcome two more years of Big Sexy blessing us with his merriment.
