Bill Miller mocked with outline on dressing room floor after taking pitch off knee
During Friday’s game between the Angels and Giants, home plate umpire Bill Miller took a pitch square off his knee after it appeared pitcher Joe Smith and catcher Chris Iannetta weren’t on the same page. Saturday, members of the umpiring crew had a little fun at Miller’s expense.
On the umpires dressing floor was a tape outline of Miller’s body along with a cap, face mask, and counter for keeping track of balls and strikes. The outline itself included a bruise on one of the knees, which one would believe Miller had to have after a baseball hit it and ricocheted down the third base line.
After going down to the ground in pain, Miller was able to finish Friday’s game and manned third base on Saturday.
Tape outlines are certainly nothing new in baseball as we’ve seen Ryan Braun and Aubrey Huff mocked in the past. However, this is the first time we’ve seen an empire receive the treatment.
