Bill Murray: St. Louis Cardinals fans are ‘Satan’s messengers on Earth’

bill-murray

The legendary Bill Murray has worn a lot of hats over the course of his illustrious career. Actor, comedian, writer, political activist, philanthropist. Turns out that St. Louis Cardinals fan is definitely not one of them.

The 64-year-old comic genius appeared at the John Deere Classic Pro-Am in Illinois on Wednesday. After soaking in the tournament, Murray, a noted Chicago Cubs diehard, decided to have a bit of fun with the crowd.

Via the Quad-City Times:

He asked if any fans saw his beloved Cubs sweep St. Louis in a double-header Tuesday. One woman behind the ropes said she was a Cardinals fan.

“Satan’s messengers on Earth,” was the way Murray described the Cardinals.

“And then it turns out your team is cheaters, too,’’ he added.

A few steps away, a boy with a Cardinals hat asked for an autograph. Murray signed, then noticed the red cap. “Are you a Cardinals fan? Get out of here. Rotten kid.”

Yikes. Not even children are safe from the crossfire of Murray’s abhorrence for the Cardinals. While the “cheaters” quip was definitely a shot at St. Louis’ infamous hacking scandal of recent weeks, Murray left absolutely no doubt about his feelings for the Cardinals as well as their supporters.

The great thing about all this is that Murray isn’t even channeling his Tourette’s Syndrome-afflicted character from “What About Bob?”; he just legitimately despises all things St. Louis Cardinals.

Oh yeah, and apparently he signed a forehead at the event as well:

Suffice it to say, if Murray ever encountered Mike Matheny walking down the street, he would probably give the Cardinals manager the good ol’ Ned Ryerson treatment.
