Braves reportedly eyeing Sonny Gray, Chris Archer, Chris Sale

The Atlanta Braves certainly don’t beat around the bush.

According to a report by Mark Bowman of MLB.com on Tuesday, the Braves have asked about ace righties Sonny Gray of the Oakland Athletics and Chris Archer of the Tampa Bay Rays in addition to their interest in Chicago White Sox ace lefty Chris Sale.

The Braves, who finished last in the NL East last season at 68-93, already signed veterans Bartolo Colon and R.A. Dickey earlier this month to complement All-Star righty Julio Teheran in their starting rotation.

Both Gray, who is coming off an injury-riddled 2016 campaign, and Sale, who tied his career best with 17 wins in 2016, are under team control through 2019. Meanwhile, Archer, who had his own struggles in 2016 and led the majors with 19 losses, is under team control through 2021.

With young prospects galore, the Braves have more than enough pieces to swing a deal for an elite starter. The question now becomes which of these three reported targets (with seven combined All-Star appearances among them) is available for trade, if any.
