Looking to put a 68-93 season behind them, the Atlanta Braves continue to turn to the free agent market in the hopes of retooling their roster.
According to a report by Buster Olney of ESPN on Wednesday, the Braves are among the most serious bidders for free agent catcher Jason Castro.

Castro, the 29-year-old former All-Star, had something of a down year for the Houston Astros in 2016, hitting .210/.307/.377 with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs in 113 games. But he’s known for his strong defense behind the plate and his rare talent as a game-caller.
The Braves could certainly use a player of that caliber after platooning Tyler Flowers, Anthony Recker, and 39-year-old AJ Pierzynski at catcher last year. Castro probably isn’t much of an impact bat anymore, but he could pair nicely with some of the bigger targets Atlanta has had in mind as of late.
