Brewers embarrassed Athletics with historic feat

Brewers stealing bases

The Milwaukee Brewers left the Athletics embarrassed Sunday with a historic feat in the first inning of their game.

The Brewers stole six bases on the Athletics in the first frame of Sunday’s game at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wi. Four of them came on a pair of double steals with two men on base.

This was not exactly the finest inning for A’s catcher Shea Langeliers, though there was a limit to what he could do on a pair of double steals. Still, his throw on the first steal was poor and went into left field, allowing a run to score, and he did not even bother trying to throw out the second pair of runners.

There was some confusion over whether a six-steal inning constituted some sort of MLB record, but it certainly has not been done since the start of the expansion era in 1969.

The Brewers wound up scoring four runs in the inning on their way to a 14-1 win. They wound up stealing eight bases in the victory and were only caught once.

The A’s are 10-12, but they are still fighting perceptions about their organization’s ineptitude after their controversial exit from Oakland. This probably will not help matters.
