Report: Buck Showalter has interest in Pirates’ GM job
It’s been no secret that Buck Showalter wants to get back into baseball. Perhaps surprisingly, he’s looking at opportunities beyond managing, at least according to one report.
Pittsburgh-based report Dejan Kovacevic reported Monday that Showalter is interested in the vacant Pittsburgh Pirates general manager position, though it is unclear if that interest is mutual.
Buck Showalter is interested in the GM job, I’m informed. And yes, that’s GM, not manager. My own candidates of choice: Marc DelPiano and Tony LaCava. Get ready for the barrage of names. Those are mine to get started. #DKPS #Pirates

Showalter has many years of experience in the game, but he’s never run a team before. He’d also likely be tied to a tight budget, as Pirates owner Bob Nutting has been hesitant to spend on players during his tenure.
The former Baltimore Orioles manager openly campaigned for a few roles this offseason, but thus far, he’s been unsuccessful. It seems he’s casting his eyes elsewhere instead.
