Report: Cardinals expected to strongly pursue Josh Donaldson
The St. Louis Cardinals may be trying to add another MVP winner to their illustrious history.
Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports reported on Friday that the Cardinals are expected to strongly pursue Toronto Blue Jays All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson this offseason, citing their need for a middle-of-the-order bat.
The #STLCards, who badly need a slugger in the middle of their lineup next year, are expected to strongly pursue #BlueJays 3B Josh Donaldson

Donaldson, 31, has been his usual stellar self in 2017, hitting .272/.389/.564 with 33 homers and 77 RBIs, albeit in just 111 games thanks largely to a calf injury he suffered early in the year. He is under contract for one more season.
The Blue Jays don’t appear to be at all eager to trade the star slugger. But they will finish this season with a losing record, possibly at the very bottom of the AL East, so it’s at least something they may have to consider if their prospects for contention in 2018 don’t look much better.
