Chone Figgins can’t even break up a double play illegally (Animated)

The current contract Chone Figgins is under is not exactly astronomical, but that hasn’t stopped him from becoming one of the most overpaid players in baseball. Since signing a four-year, $36 million deal with the Mariners after the 2009 season, Figgins is hitting below .225. He finished last season with an average of .188 and is headed down the same path this year with a .185 average. Even worse, Figgins can’t even break up a double play by grabbing an opponent’s ankle.

As you can see from the animation above that Lookout Landing passed along, Figgins reached out and grabbed Ian Kinsler’s ankle in the seventh to try to stop him from turning two. Kinsler made the turn anyway, and Michael Young came up with a beautiful pick at first to top it off. That’s why the Mariners are the Mariners and the Rangers are the Rangers. If Figgins hasn’t already hit rock bottom in Seattle, that should get him a bit closer.
