Colorado Rockies comparison to 2024 White Sox is not looking good

The 2024 Chicago White Sox lost more games than any team in Major League Baseball history, but the 2025 Colorado Rockies seem determined to make sure that mark does not stand.

With roughly one quarter of the season in the books, the Rockies are in a significantly worse spot than the White Sox were at the same time last year. Colorado entered Sunday with a record of 6-33. The White Sox team that lost an MLB record 121 games last season had a record of 11-28 through 39 games.

The discrepancy in run differential is even more shocking. The Rockies have been outscored by 134 runs. At the same point last season, the White Sox had a run differential of -85.

There are other major categories in which the Rockies look like a much worse team than the 2024 White Sox:

The Rockies beat the San Diego Padres on Sunday to improve to 7-33, but they are still on a far worse pace than last year’s White Sox. They decided to make a major change following that win.

Chicago’s 121 losses last year are the most of the modern era, which began in 1901. Prior to that, the 1962 New York Mets had the most losses in a season during the modern era with 120.

Unless the Rockies find a way to turn things around, the White Sox are only going to hold the title of “worst team in MLB history” for one season. That is remarkable when you consider that the Mets held it for more than 60 years prior to that.

Things have gotten so bad in Colorado that even a young fan ruthlessly trolled the team with a sign over the weekend. The Rockies may end up surpassing the White Sox with plenty of room to spare.
