Conor Gillaspie has ultimate praise for Noah Syndergaard
Conor Gillaspie emerged as a hero for the San Francisco Giants in their wild card win over the New York Mets on Wednesday night, but it wasn’t easy.
Gillaspie was the only player in the game to record multiple hits, but both of his came off Mets relievers. His 3-run shot was in the top of the 9th off Jeurys Familiar, while his first hit came in the 8th off Addison Reed. Gillaspie struck out twice against Noah Syndergaard, who whiffed 10 over seven scoreless innings.
Gillaspie had the ultimate praise for Thor after the game.
“To be honest, he was really good tonight,” Gillaspie said of Syndergaard during an interview with ESPN. “He was as good as I’ve seen at this level. It was a tough go-round for seven innings. Very rarely do I feel somewhat overmatched, and I kind of felt that way tonight. So hat’s off to him. He’s got some of the best stuff that I’ve ever seen.”
Syndergaard is typically dominant, but he seemed to have his best stuff on Wednesday. The only issue is his pitch count was at 107 after seven innings, leading Terry Collins to go to his bullpen. The result was the Giants were able to get three runs in the 9th thanks to Gillaspie. But you better believe they weren’t able to do anything off Syndergaard.
