Dave Martinez hospitalized after undergoing heart procedure
Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez is recovering after undergoing a minor heart procedure.
Martinez experienced chest pains during Sunday’s win and was hospitalized. He remained in Washington ahead of the team’s trip to St. Louis to have a catheter inserted into the heart, and will rejoin the team as soon as possible.
Dave Martinez stayed in Washington D.C. for precautionary medical testing. Bench Coach Chip Hale will manage the team tonight in St. Louis.

Mike Rizzo said he spoke w Davey today and he was upbeat. He will return when all the blood work comes back and he’s cleared to travel.

A cardiac catheterization is the insertion of a catheter into a chamber or vessel of the heart. It’s a more general term for a group of procedures.

The good news is that it appears Martinez will be healthy enough to rejoin the Nationals soon. While it’s certainly a secondary concern to the manager’s health, they sit 1.5 games up for the first NL wild card spot. Martinez has been a big part of that and has turned around his tenure after a very rocky first season in charge.
