Report: Dee Gordon, Jean Segura were Mariners involved in clubhouse altercation
The primary combatants in Tuesday’s altercation in the Seattle Mariners clubhouse appear to have been identified.
Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reported that Mariners infielders Dee Gordon and Jean Segura were the players involved in the skirmish, which occurred prior to a game at home against the league-worst Baltimore Orioles.
Per Divish:
Sources indicated the incident was between Gordon and shortstop Jean Segura and stemmed from Gordon’s misplay on a ball in center field during Monday’s win over the Orioles.
When asked about it, multiple players refused to comment and offered up some version of “what happens in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse.”
The incident comes on the heels of Seattle’s slide to a distant third in the AL West race, 8.5 games behind the division lead and 5.5 games out of a Wild Card spot. As for Gordon, who is in his first season as a Mariner, earlier accounts did make it seem like he was pretty well involved.
