Report: Diamondbacks near deal to acquire Eduardo Escobar
The Arizona Diamondbacks are reportedly nearing a move to try to improve their playoff chances.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Diamondbacks are close to acquiring Minnesota Twins infielder Eduardo Escobar.

There was no word on what the Diamondbacks would be giving up, but Escobar doesn’t figure to demand a particularly large return. He is signed through 2018, so this would be a rental from Arizona’s perspective. It also looks like a sign that the Twins are willing to sell short-term assets, as they sit seven games back of the AL Central-leading Cleveland Indians and a full 12.5 games out of the second wild card spot.
Primarily a third baseman, Escobar is hitting .274 with 15 home runs and an AL-leading 37 doubles. It’s easily his best offensive season since breaking into the league in 2011. Now the only question is whether he’ll be able to bring Nicolas Cage with him to Arizona.
