The Los Angeles Dodgers are going to be without one star player for the foreseeable future.
Closer Edwin Diaz, who signed a $69 million deal this offseason, is now out until the second half of the season as he will undergo surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow.

The Dodgers signed Diaz to a three-year, $69 million deal, and the All-Star closer was expected to be a major boost to the bullpen.
However, Diaz has a 10.50 ERA in seven appearances with four saves and one blown save. He has given up seven runs in just six innings with the Dodgers, including three runs on three hits while recording zero outs in the loss to the Colorado Rockies on Sunday at Coors Field.
The appearance on Sunday was a non-save situation for Diaz, but he still struggled.
ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez reported that the expected timeline for Diaz is three months, which would put him on track to return right around the All-Star break.
In Diaz’s absence, the immediate replacement figures to be Tanner Scott, who had 23 saves and 10 blown saves in 2025. Alex Vesia is another option, and he already has two saves this season.
