The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Francisco Giants, 6-3, in what may have been the final regular-season home start for pitcher Clayton Kershaw on Friday night.

While Kershaw’s goodbye understandably stole the spotlight and dominated the moment, the Dodgers quietly celebrated a change that had stood for nearly 129 years.

With the win, Los Angeles extended its season series lead over the Giants to 8-3. It also tied their all-time head-to-head series record, 1,287-1,287-19, for the first time since 1896.

The Dodgers/Giants head-to-head all-time in the regular season is now 1,287 wins each (with 19 ties, h/t @EliasSports)

It’s wild to think that the Dodgers, one of the most decorated and successful teams in MLB history, have spent the past 129 years playing catch-up with the Giants.

To put that in perspective, the last time these two teams had an even all-time head-to-head record, Grover Cleveland was President of the United States of America (second term), the Philippine Revolution had just begun, and the New York Telephone Company was just six months old.

The Duryea Motor Wagon was the top-selling vehicle in America with 13 units sold. It was the first gasoline-powered car available in the country and cost upwards of $750.

Almost fittingly, the Dodgers and Giants play two more times this season — Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21.

What are the odds they split those two games?
