Dodgers reportedly make Jordan Zimmermann a top free agent target
With 2015 NL Cy Young Award runner-up Zack Greinke set to attract a ton of attention on the free agent market this winter, the Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be in the midst of preparing a contingency plan just in case.
According a report by Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports on Friday, the team has identified 29-year-old righty Jordan Zimmermann as a top free agent target.
The #Dodgers, in their quest for marquee starting pitching, have identified free agent Jordan Zimmermann as one of their top targets.

Zimmermann, who went 13-10 with a 3.66 ERA and 164 strikeouts for the Nationals last season, is a power pitcher and a two-time All-Star. While his whiff rate is underwhelming and he had Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow back in 2009, Zimmermann is firmly entrenched as a second-tier free agent pitcher this offseason behind the Greinkes, the David Prices, and the Johnny Cuetos of the world.
While the Dodgers could face stiff competition for Zimmermann’s services as well, it’s clear that they refuse to walk away from this ripe crop of starting pitching talent empty-handed.
