The Los Angeles Dodgers shared some bad news on Shohei Ohtani on Friday.
Ohtani will not make his scheduled start as a pitcher on Friday due to continued irritation in his left knee. While he will continue to play as a designated hitter over the weekend, he will not travel to the All-Star Game in Philadelphia next week in order to undergo treatment.
Shohei Ohtani will not make his scheduled start on the mound this evening against the D-backs due to continued irritation in his left knee. He will serve as the designated hitter the rest of the weekend, but following the series against the D-backs he will have some interventions…

Injuries seem to be popping up for Ohtani at a somewhat alarming rate. He left a game last week with what he said was a recurring bicep issue. News of a knee issue is new, and definitely leads to questions about how long this has been bothering Ohtani.
Ohtani has participated in each of the last five All-Star games. There had probably been some hope that he would be able to participate in this one, even if only as a DH, but the Dodgers are rightly taking extra precautions to make sure whatever this is does not become more serious.
Ohtani is hitting .290 with 20 home runs on the season so far. He has struggled since the start of July, however, to the tune of a .222 average, though he still has two home runs in that span.
