Don Mattingly has reportedly been hired as manager of the Miami Marlins.
Molly Knight of Vice Sports cites a person with knowledge of the situation who claims Mattingly has signed a four-year deal with the team. The Marlins could wait until the conclusion of the World Series to make a formal announcement.
Mattingly will become Miami’s eighth new manager since 2010, which is truly remarkable. He managed the Dodgers the past five seasons and won the NL West division the last three, but the Dodgers basically had a World Series or bust mentality with their astronomically high payroll.
There has already been some speculation over who the frontrunner is to replace Mattingly in LA. Whoever it is better be ready to deal with some lofty expectations.
The Marlins finished 71-91 this season and have not made the playoffs since they won the World Series in 2003.
