Dustin Pedroia suffers another ‘significant’ setback with knee
Dustin Pedroia has yet to officially give up on his MLB playing career, but the second baseman has to be getting close.
Injuries have limited Pedroia to just nine total games over the past two seasons combined. He appeared in six for the Boston Red Sox last season and just three in 2018 when they set records en route to a World Series title. According to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe, Pedroia has suffered yet another setback with his knee and may not be available for spring training. He is said to be “discussing his options,” which could be a hint that he is contemplating retirement.
Breaking news: #RedSox 2B Dustin Pedroia has suffered what sources say was a significant setback with his left knee.
His availability for at least spring training is questionable. Pedroia is discussing his options with his family, agents, and the Sox.

Pedroia is 36 and simply cannot stay healthy. We explained at length last year why he should accept that the Red Sox simply do not need him, but he is still trying to make a comeback.
The list of accomplishments for Pedroia is not a short one. He’s a four-time All-Star, won the AL MVP Award in 2008, was a key part of World Series championship teams in 2007 and 2013, has won four Gold Glove Awards and has a career batting average of .300. He’s easily one of the best infielders in Red Sox history, but many fans have forgotten he is even still on the roster.
