Athletics rookie infielder Joshua Kuroda-Grauer left Monday’s game early against the Arizona Diamondbacks after fouling a ball off his groin area.

On Tuesday, the Athletics placed Kuroda-Grauer on the IL with a ruptured testicle.

The Athletics placed right-handed pitcher Mark Leiter on the 15-day injured list retroactive to retroactive to July 19 with a right hip impingement, and infielder Joshua Kuroda-Grauer on the 10-day injured list following surgery for a ruptured testicle. The A’s have also…

Kuroda-Grauer fouled the ball off and proceeded to go to the ground in considerable pain.

Yet, somehow, he recovered and hit a single before being removed from the game.

A ruptured testicle is rare in the MLB, and the last player to be documented with the injury was Seattle Mariners slugger Mitch Haniger in 2019. Adrian Beltre missed nearly six weeks in 2009 for the same injury, so it could be quite the road to recovery for Kuroda-Grauer.

Joshua Kuroda-Grauer is just23 years old and made his MLB debut this season. In 16 games, he was hitting .417 with a 1.019 OPS, and it’s just another tough blow for the Athletics right ahead of the trade deadline.
