During the 12th inning of Friday’s game between the Yankees and Red Sox, a bank of lights went out at Yankee Stadium causing a delay. In an effort to keep play going, fans used the flashlight features on their cell phones to provide additional lighting.
Play resumed after 16 minutes, according to the broadcast.
It figures a game between the Red Sox and Yankees, which seem to regularly take forever to complete, would experience a stoppage of play in extra innings. It wasn’t fireworks inadvertently going off or a bird evading the grounds crew in Cleveland, but it was another unexpected interruption nonetheless. Of course, this all happens after baseball made a concerted effort to try to speed up the game with new pace of play rules.
