Freddie Freeman gives very fitting name to his new pet after World Series victory
Shohei Ohtani’s dog Decoy may have some in-house competition.
Freddie Freeman’s wife Chelsea revealed in a social media post this week that their family adopted a new cat just three days after the Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series. The Freeman family has given their new feline a very fitting name — “Champ.”

If there is anyone who deserves to bestow the “Champ” name, it is definitely the star first baseman Freeman. The eight-time MLB All-Star just took home World Series MVP honors on the heels of an incredible postseason run that included one of the most memorable playoff home runs of all-time in Game 1 of the World Series. Freeman then followed that up with home runs in the next three straight World Series games as well, setting a ridiculous record.
This is not the first World Series victory for Freeman, who also won it all with the Atlanta Braves in 2021. But it is the first one to result in a new cat for the Freeman family (a cat that could soon be throwing out first pitches just like Decoy).
