Giancarlo Stanton takes shot at Marlins for not contending
The Miami Marlins gave Giancarlo Stanton the largest contract in MLB history in terms of total dollars, but those 325 million reasons still are not enough to make the slugger feel warm and fuzzy about his time with the franchise.
Stanton was asked by reporters on Monday about the biggest differences between playing for the New York Yankees and the eight major league seasons he played in Miami. His response was pretty ruthless.
Giancarlo Stanton said that his biggest difference in New York was “playing in games that mattered past May 7.”

The Marlins were obviously horrendous during the majority of Stanton’s tenure with the team, but Stanton saying they were out of contention after a month shows you the level of frustration he felt in Miami.
Stanton hit .266 with 38 home runs and 100 in his first season with the Yankees, so his regular season numbers were nothing to scoff at. However, he may not enjoy his time in New York for very long if he can’t improve upon his postseason struggles. In five playoff games, Stanton had just five hits, one home run and one RBI. He felt like an automatic out for most of the ALDS against the rival Boston Red Sox.
For what it’s worth, Marlins fans treated Stanton quite well when he returned as a visitor last season. His issue is likely more with the team’s management than the fans, though there are very few of the latter.
