Report: Indians aggressively pursuing Edwin Encarnacion
At least one team is starting to get aggressive in their pursuit of Edwin Encarnacion.
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Cleveland Indians are “pulling out all the stops” to try to make signing Encarnacion financially viable.
Encarnacion’s demands are still high, and Cleveland is in a tight spot financially, struggling to find common ground with both Encarnacion and Mike Napoli, who played for them in 2016.
Encarnacion has five consecutive 30 homer seasons, but as a 33-year-old first base-designated hitter type, his market has been slightly limited. The Indians have been linked before, but it’s mostly a number of teams keeping tabs on the situation in case the price drops.
