Jake Arrieta critical of Phillies’ defensive shifts after sweep by Giants
The Philadelphia Phillies were swept by the San Francisco Giants this weekend, and pitcher Jake Arrieta has had it.
Arrieta criticized the Phillies for their “horse—-” play against the Giants, and called out the team for what he feels are poor defensive shifts.
Jake Arrieta described himself as furious, said Phillies defensive shifts are worst in the league. "We need to change that. Copy the best. That's not my job." Said needs to be accountability check "top to bottom," after "horse-bleep" series.

Not what you want to hear from the major star veteran on your roster. The Phillies had been doing very well, but they’ve now lost six of eight and fallen into third in the NL East. Arrieta openly blasting his team’s defensive shifts is also a black eye for the coaching staff, which had stabilized after a shaky start. He’s the experienced veteran on a young team, so it remains to be seen how they’ll respond.
