Boston Red Sox announcer Will Flemming addressed the controversial comments about the New York Yankees he made during Sunday’s game.
Flemming, who calls Red Sox games on the radio for WEEI, was angry that Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm stole third base while holding a 7-1 lead in the eighth inning of Sunday’s game at Yankee Stadium. Flemming called Chisholm a “bush league player” that the Red Sox should fight, and also advocated for throwing at Yankee catcher Austin Wells in retaliation.

On Monday, Flemming issued an apology on X. He said he has been receiving “nonstop calls and threats” and admitted he “crossed a line” and let his fandom bleed into the broadcast.

Chisholm seems to inspire this sort of reaction in opposing broadcasters. He is a flashy player who sometimes does not care about baseball’s so-called “unwritten rules,” which can rub people the wrong way.
Flemming has called games for the Red Sox since 2019. He has also done work for FOX, ESPN, and CBS Sports. This is not the first time he has been annoyed over an opponent celebrating against the Red Sox.
