John Kruk had been communicating with Kansas City Royals legend George Brett about BBQ ribs for over two years and, until Sunday, he had no idea. At least that’s what he says.
It goes without saying that Kruk loves his food. Whenever he’s in Kansas City, he arranges specially to get some ribs delivered to him via Meat Mitch. Kruk even scarfed them down on national TV during the Home Run Derby in Kansas City in 2012. So when he was in KC for “Sunday Night Baseball” over the weekend, Kruk arranged to have some Meat Mitch ribs delivered to him on-air again.

The whole rib eating thing led Kruk to tell his great story. According to Kruk, he had been texting with a guy named “George” any time he wanted his ribs delivered.
“A couple of years ago, Mitch said ‘I’m going to have George get in touch with you to set up the ribs,'” Kruk recalled. “I said ‘that would be great.’ So for two years I’ve been texting back-and-forth with this ‘George’ fellow, until today that I finally realized it that that George fellow was George Brett.
“Oh my goodness. What an embarrassment.”
Kruk explained on the telecast that he was told George would not be able to deliver the ribs this particular weekend because he was presenting Mike Sweeney with his Royals Hall of Fame jersey. That’s when it finally hit Kruk that the person with whom he had been talking the whole time was George Brett.
What an awesome story. It says a lot about both men that they are humble enough to go that long without having to show off who they are. Clearly Brett must not have mentioned this incredible tale otherwise his cover would have been blown.
