Kyren Lacy died on Saturday in Houston, Texas, after committing suicide following a police chase, according to a report.
A report from the Harrison County’s sheriff’s department was released on Sunday night. The sheriff’s report stated that a police pursuit ended when Lacy’s car crashed. When the officers approached the car, they found that Lacy had died in an apparent suicide. The former LSU wide receiver is believed to have killed himself using a handgun that was recovered at the scene.
According to TMZ, the police pursuit was sparked following a call about a weapons disturbance around 11:15 PM on Saturday night. A woman who said she was a family member of Lacy called police after she says she got into a verbal argument with Kyren, who allegedly fired a weapon into the ground before leaving the scene. Police later spotted Lacy’s car, but he sped off, leading to a chase that ultimately ended with Lacy crashing and shooting himself.

All of this comes two weeks before the NFL Draft, where Lacy was among the top wide receiver prospects. However, the former LSU receiver’s professional aspirations were completely altered following a fatal incident on Dec. 17.
Lacy turned himself in to authorities in December after he was wanted on charges for negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death, and reckless operation of a vehicle. Lacy was accused of driving recklessly and causing a crash in Gray, Louisiana, that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man, and then fleeing the scene.
A grand jury was set to begin hearing evidence in his case on Monday.
Lacy had 56 catches for 866 yards and 9 touchdowns for LSU last season. He had 16 touchdown receptions over the past two years and 26 during his college career.
