John Rocker: Holocaust might not have happened if the Jews had guns

John-Rocker-BravesRemember John Rocker? Sure you do. He’s that nutbag who spent six years in the MLB as a relief pitcher and sprinted out of the bullpen like he had a bottle rocket up his can every time he took the mound. Rocker is best known for making incredibly racist, sexist and homophobic remarks about the city of New York during a 1999 interview with Sports Illustrated. Back in 2008, he made headlines for admitting he used steroids during his career.

And now he’s back — sort of. We usually do our best to avoid giving attention to guys who are seemingly desperate for it like Rocker, but his recent view on gun control is too ridiculous to ignore. In his column for the conservative political site World Net Daily, Rocker posed the question of whether or not the Holocaust could have been avoided with looser gun control.

Mr. Obama wants to severely neuter the Second Amendment and disarm the law-abiding citizens of this nation, a similar act of tyrants throughout the 20th century such as Stalin, Mao and Hitler. Absolute certainties are a rare thing in this life, but one I think can be collectively agreed upon is the undeniable fact that the Holocaust would have never taken place had the Jewish citizenry of Hitler’s Germany had the right to bear arms and defended themselves with those arms.

Fortunately, we have people in sports like Jim Boeheim who can present a logical argument about an important issue like gun control, whether you agree with his stance or not. Rocker, on the other hand, could probably best serve the world from a padded room.
