Jorge Lopez issues important clarification to his viral comments about Mets
The New York Mets are reportedly moving on from Jorge Lopez following his embarrassing actions on Wednesday, but the relief pitcher has clarified some of the remarks he made in his postgame interview.
Lopez came in to pitch during the top of the 8th of the Mets’ 10-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citi Field in Queens, N.Y. He surrendered a 2-run double and 2-run home run while getting one out. The Mets weren’t planning to pull Lopez, but he got ejected after allowing the 2-run home run to Shohei Ohtani. After getting ejected, Lopez untucked his jersey as he walked off the field and threw his glove into the stands (video here). He then expressed no regret for his actions after the game, and many thought Lopez called the Mets the “worst” team in all of Major League Baseball. SNY’s Steve Gelbs said he gave Lopez a chance to clarify the comment and Lopez confirmed that he meant to rip the Mets.
I asked Jorge Lopez if he regretted throwing his glove into the stands. Not only did he say no, he then called the Mets “the worst team in the whole f—cking MLB.”

If you listen closely, it sounds like Lopez may have actually said that he has been “the worst teammate probably in the whole f—ing MLB.” That is a lot different from calling the Mets the worst team.
On Thursday, Lopez took to Instagram to criticize those who misinterpreted the remarks.
“Who ever hear me I said teammate and what I said on the situation I been the worst teammate thanks media for make it worse,” Lopez wrote.

Lopez has a 3.76 ERA in 28 appearances this season. He spent last season with three different teams and was an All-Star in 2022 after getting off to a hot start with the Baltimore Orioles out of the bullpen.
Even if Lopez was not calling the Mets the worst team in baseball, it sounds like he no longer has his roster spot.
