The sports world received horrible news on Sunday morning when word surfaced that Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez has died. Making the matter more tragic, it appears the 24-year-old was about to become a father.
Fernandez, who was killed in a boating accident, shared a photo on Instagram five days ago that showed a pregnant woman:
“I’m so glad you came into my life,” Fernandez captioned the photo. “I’m ready for where this journey is gonna take us together. #familyfirst.”
Fernandez had been dating a woman named Carla Mendoza for quite some time, but LBS is told that is not her in the photo. A photo from a year ago showed the two embracing on the field after Fernandez set a record by becoming the first pitcher in the modern era to win his first 17 career home decisions.
