Jose Siri makes A’s announcer look terrible with big home run
Oakland Athletics announcer Jenny Cavnar might have some regrets over one of her calls in the 9th inning of Thursday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Athletics were up 4-3 in the 9th, with star closer Mason Miller in to protect the lead. Rays outfielder Jose Siri stepped in with one out and nobody on, and Cavnar got a little bit too overconfident with what was supposed to be a witty remark.

“Hey Siri, it’s not your night,” Cavnar said, referencing the digital assistant used by Apple products.
Unfortunately for Cavnar, it would end up being Siri’s night. On the very next pitch, he launched a game-tying home run.

Siri had already homered in the second inning as well. Miller being on the mound was plenty of reason to be confident, but the time for the Siri pun probably would have been after he was retired, not during the plate appearance.
This is not the first time Cavnar has been subject to criticism for her work. She is in her first season as the A’s play-by-play announcer, though, and has not gotten much to work with from the team.
The Rays wound up winning the game 6-5 in 12 innings, clinching a series win over Oakland.
