Oakland A’s announcer Jenny Cavnar torched over brutal call
The Oakland A’s have been putting a sub-standard product on the field this season. A call delivered by one of their announcers on Friday matched that level.
A’s television play-by-play announcer Jenny Cavnar was torched online for the brutal call she delivered on an otherwise exciting play Friday night.
The A’s had been trailing the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 through eight innings but put two runners on to start the 9th at Camden Yards in Baltimore. Abraham Toro then drove a 2-2 pitch over Ryan McKenna’s head in right field to score the tying run.

Yikes, that was bad.
Cavnar, who is in her first season as the Oakland A’s TV play-by-play announcer, was brutally behind on the play. She had yet to describe the ball going off the wall even as McKenna’s throw went toward the infield. She just seemed to lack the words to describe the action in the manner that an MLB-level announcer should.
Gotta be one of the worst calls by a baseball announcer I've ever heard. What's going on here?

I really wanted to like her, but her play-by-play is dismal. She's picked up the lingo but has no feel for what's going on in the game. Missed two home run calls, misses foul tips, etc.

The excitement was not there for a game tying double lol my god

She's the worst play by play announcer I've ever heard. Zero emotion. Like listening to a judge give a verdict. God awful.

I listened to it once before and the lack of enthusiasm was terrible. Now I notice this time she says “we have ourselves an even up game”. Terrible.

I really hate to say it, but Jenny Cavnar is not working as a primary play-by-play announcer so far. She doesn't have the feel for the big moments, and her delivery is flat. This should have been a much more excited call. It's a tough role for anyone, but she needs more work. https://t.co/IIXlvAdu66

Those who saw the clip online made “Boom Goes the Dynamite” jokes.
And we all thought this was bad.

Here’s the original “Boom Goes the Dynamite” video for a comparison:
Cavnar was hired in February as a replacement for longtime A’s announcer Glen Kuiper, who was fired last year for accidentally using the N-word during a misspeak.
The A’s ended up winning Friday night’s game 3-2 in 10 innings.
